Whether you call the look blackout or murdered out all-black vehicles have been on the streets for decades. From Henry Ford’s famous quote “Any customer can have a car painted any color he wants so long as it is black” to the coining of the term “murdered out” in the 90’s people have enjoyed the look of a plain black vehicle. Their low-profile appearance creates a dark and mysterious allure that people seem to love. With over 40 years of experience, we are blackout experts, and we want to share how you can blackout your vehicle.
Install A Chrome Delete Package
Unless you bought a higher trim level with blackout trim accents or one of the newer Tesla models you probably have chrome trim on your vehicle. Chrome accents have become remnant of an older time period and for years people have been using chrome delete kits to modify their rides. Blackout trim creates a more serious tone to the vehicle that doesn’t distract from its overall design.
Back in the day trim parts were made of sturdy metal, but now many chrome parts are cheaper plastic. Modern designs have started to break from tradition and not incorporate these accents. If you have an older car with chrome, you can still get the blackout styling you want using different methods to create chrome delete trim. There are many ways to do so including paint, vinyl wraps, and replacement parts. We’ve put together blackout packages for a couple models to help people customize their rides.
Select a Custom Wheel Design
Wheels catch a lot of attention on the road, and most stock designs have chrome. That means your ride will need some new shoes for a complete blackout look. There are lots of aftermarket wheel companies out there that make street or offroad styles. Some of our favorite luxury blackout wheels are from Vossen, Asanti, or Niche. For gritty offroad builds KMC and Black Rhino are wheel brands that come to mind.
New wheels can get expensive, so there is another option if you’d prefer to save cash. Instead of buying new wheels you can use a black powder coat finish on your current wheel design. Powder coat finishes are fully customizable and durable coatings that improve the style and strength of your wheels.
Tint Those Windows
Window tint is a classic must have for murdered out rides. Tinting the windows on any car will change its aesthetic right away and give you some extra privacy. Aside from a styling upgrade applying window tint has the added benefit of solar rejection. This is critical with blackout cars since they soak up heat in hot summer months. Solar rejection also protects your vision and your skin from harmful UV rays while driving. When selecting your window tint check local laws to know what you could get penalized for.
Some people will also tint their headlights and brake lights. If you go this route, we recommend doing some research as this is usually illegal in most states. If you are itching to darken more features then the side markers are an option. Overall, a lighter tint or smoke on these areas is a safer bet.
Wrap Or Paint Your Vehicle
Of course, if you don’t already have a black car, you’ll need to change that too… You can blackout your car with a fresh paint job or a vinyl wrap. Paint jobs are more permanent, but they tend to cost more. Vinyl wraps on the other hand can last up to 7 years when properly installed and can easily be replaced whenever you want a new look. This is also important if you go to sell your car. Wraps come in different finishes to create a satin or matte look like this Chevy Silverado HD 2500 build.

After all that exterior work it’s time to focus on improving your interior. To get full-on black leather seats we work with custom leather vendors like Katzkin. With custom leather there are a ton of options to choose from to elevate your ride.
Not many people know this, but the truth is you don’t have to spend more cash for a higher trim level when all you want is leather seating. Katzkin premium leather seating offers some great options to fit whichever style of vehicle. With different colored stitching in various styles like diamond, hexagonal, and piping.
