We wanted to give this GMC Yukon Denali a unique custom exterior that showcases large scale luxury. In order to give it a powerful and elegant new look we stripped off every bit of factory chrome. All of which ended up being replaced with bold black accents and a two-tone style vinyl roof wrap.

Vinyl Roof Wrap
This chrome delete Yukon Denali has an exterior appeal different from others due to its vinyl roof wrap. The wrap extends down the pillars where it splits the vehicle in half making the top section all black. Using a vinyl wrap in this fashion creates a painted two-tone appearance. Land Rover is often credited for popularizing this look on SUVs. The two-tone effect makes the car feel compressed and sleek adding more athletic character.
Black Replacement Grille
Another area that grabs a lot of attention is the grille. With a full replacement blackout grille, you can change up the appeal of your Denali. Installing a blackout replacement grille erases a big portion of chrome on the front end with ease. A black Denali grille creates a style that comes across more sophisticated and less gaudy compared to the factory chrome grille.
It has the same mesh pattern of the Denali grille but is gloss black rather than chrome. It is made from a black impregnated plastic, so the color is embedded in the material instead of a topcoat. This makes rock chips and other road wear much less noticeable than when it occurs on a painted part.
With the grille replaced we had to choose whether or not to go for a bold or subtle look with its trim. We decided to go with the lighter approach in order to give the two-tone wrap more attention. The thick chrome trim around the grille was color matched to the summit white body paint of the SUV. This keeps the grille from feeling heavy or overbearing.
The other option you have to change the look of the grille is to custom paint it. Either method works but having the blackout grille is necessary to achieve this black and white appearance.
Chrome Delete Trim
Next, we got right to work on accommodating the new roof wrap and grille with a complete chrome delete. The chrome delete improves the Denali’s appearance by incorporating more black accents to give this custom GMC a cohesive look.
Other parts on the front-end that got the blackout treatment aside from the grille were the front bumper trim, fog light bezel, and mirror accents. Each of these accent pieces were removed and painted. If you wanted a more cost effective but less permanent solution, then wrapping them is another option.
Furthering the chrome delete look on the front end we replaced the fender vent accents and smoked the orange side markers. With those final touches the front-end chrome fittings and colors were all darkened to match our desired chrome delete look.
Of course, there are still other chrome pieces to take care of like the roof rails up on top. Followed by the fine edges of the window trim. Removing and reinstalling fine window trim can be difficult, but skilled technicians like our team at VIP Auto Accessories have no problem taking care of it. Below the windows, the chrome on the door handles and lower body molds of the door were darkened with a matching gloss black.
The last bits of chrome we knocked out at the trunk were the exhaust tips, rear bumper trim, and rear hatch valance. After those final blackout features the chrome delete is wrapped up leaving a stylish beast of comfort and capability.
Blackout GMC Emblems
Now the last piece left to tie the entire chrome delete together is the blackout GMC emblems. The original red emblems stood out too much whereas the new blackout GMC emblems are more subtle. It keeps the branding from being obvious and creates some allure to the SUV. The Yukon Denali lettering is also blacked out for complete coverage.
Black Painted Calipers
For a final touch of color, we painted the brake calipers on this Yukon Denali gloss red. This small detail adds just a bit more depth to the design highlighting a part behind the wheels. When painting calipers it is highly important to use a durable heat and chemical resistant paint.
Later on, this build will be getting a new set of custom wheels. If you wanted to change the look of the wheels to match the rest of the vehicle better without replacing anything you could get a black powder coating. Powder coating provides an extra layer of protection for your wheels and is customizable to almost any color you could want for your ride.
Suggested Add-Ons
Since the Yukon is a luxury SUV, we strongly recommend protective accessories and upgrades to keep your investment safe. For instance, PPF and a ceramic coating can be used to guard your rides exterior.
Paint protection film, PPF, is a thin clear layer that protects key areas of your car from high impact scrapes, chips, and dents. It should always be applied before a ceramic coating.
Our Ceramic Solutions formula forms a chemical bond with factory paint or vinyl which helps keep dirt, grime, and acidic rain from damaging paint. The best thing about ceramic coating is you just wash your car as normal! Having a Ceramic Solutions coating allows you to spend less time on your rides cleaning and vehicle maintenance.
On the interior you can get infotainment screen protectors to prevent scratches, dents, and spills from harming the center counsel area. Whichever accessories or modifications sound right will help you make the perfect vehicle for you. If need any assistance building your ride, we are happy to help!
