Since 1941 Jeep has been proving its vehicles reputation for offroading. The 1980’s saw the introduction of the Wrangler brand which would soon become the face of Jeep. As it stands, the Wrangler is one of the most popular vehicles in the United States (and for good reason).
The Wrangler has a renowned pedigree for offroad capability from the factory. We wanted to push this Wrangler a bit further by adding some goodies any trailhead would drool over.

3.5-Inch Lift Kit & Steering Stabilizer
We needed to add enough clearance for some big boy tires using Rough Country’s 3.5 inch suspension lift kit. This kit includes a set of control arm drop brackets, which means we can keep the factory control arms. This provides the factory angle for great handling and a smooth highway ride.
We also added a Rough Country N3 Steering Stabilizer to reduce bump steer and vibration.
Bump steer is the sensation you feel when you hit pothole and your front wheels turn without any change in how you’re holding the steering wheel. As you can probably imagine bump steer can be a real danger when you’re doing some offroading.
Black Rhino Wheels & Toyo Tires
With the extra 3.5 inches of clearance, we went ahead and swapped out the factory rims with some Black Rhino Alamo Wheels. We opted for the 20×9 size which should help out with more ground clearance.
A set of wheels and lift wouldn’t be complete without a fresh set of rubber. We wrapped our new Black Rhino wheels in a set of 35-inch Toyo Open Country rubber. This combination of wheel, tire, and lift serve as a great starting point for an offroad build.
DV8 Slider Steps
Since we’ve made this Jeep a fair bit taller we figured the addition of some side steps could be useful. These steps use a design that offers the functionality of a rock slider and a side step in one package. They also look great so bonus points for that.
LED Trail Bumper / Angry Eyes / LED Headlight
For the front of this Wrangler we started off by adding one of Rough Country’s LED Trail Bumper. The full width design offers an aggressive offroad look while keeping the factory fender flair intact.
Somewhat hidden behind the front bumper is also Rough Country’s Angry Eye Grille. They come in a matte black finish but we hit up our paint booth to get a more custom look for this Wrangler. The finished product matches the Wrangler’s Sarge Green paint perfectly!
One last thing we added to the grille was some 9-inch LED Projection Headlights from Rough Country. These headlights offer a unique look when compared to the factory option.
Rugged Ridge 1000LB Winch
To finish up the front of this Wrangler build we added a Rugged Ridge Trekker Series 1000LB Winch. This winch features an IP-68 waterproof rating, wired remote, and fast line speed. This winch was built to survive in the worst conditions imaginable.
Road Armor Spartan Rear Bumper
Swinging around to the back of the Wrangler, we added Road Armor’s Spartan Rear Bumper. This bumper is made with 11 gauge steel and can be directly bolted on to the factory bumper mounts. It also offers recessed light ports for auxiliary lighting (but the lights are not included).
Tailgate Reinforcement & Relocation Brackets
With the addition of our new wheel and tire package we needed to add some reinforcement to the tailgate. We did just that with Rough Country’s Tailgate reinforcement kit, and tire relocation kit. Both of these add-ons are recommended when you add a larger wheel and tire.
We also wanted to keep the 3rd brake light featured on the wrangler so we opted to use Rough Country’s 3rd brake light relocation kit. This kit offers increased visibility of the 3rd brake light after upgrading to larger wheels and tires.
Custom Leather Interior
Jeep doesn’t offer a leather seat option for the Wrangler Sport S from the factory. That luxury has been reserved for the Sahara and higher trim levels. We gave this Sport the Katzkin Leather Seating treatment for extra comfort on the trails.
There’s no need to pay thousands of dollars for higher trim levels when all you want is leather seats. Katzkin leather offers tons of custom and factory match options so you can get a custom look no matter what!
