Love them or hate them lowered trucks might make a comeback with the 2022 Ford Maverick. The Maverick has pushed the boundaries of what we consider a truck today and helped revitalize the compact truck segment. For good reason too since it offers great utility and fuel efficiency at a low price point.

To continue pushing boundaries even further we wanted to create a unique Maverick build. This Ford Maverick pickup was lowered to improve handling and create a sleek low-profile look. It also received new street wheels and tires along with a performance exhaust. To see details about all the upgrades that we made on this custom 2022 Ford Maverick keep on reading! If you would rather lift your maverick up instead of lowering it check out our offroad Ford Maverick build.

Eibach Lowering Springs

Once we got ahold of this Maverick, we put it up on the lift and got to work installing some lowering springs. Lowering the vehicle is mostly done for the look, but if it’s done properly your vehicle can have increased handling on the road. Once this maverick was lowered, we definitely noticed a positive difference in ride quality. For many mini truck owners of the past the maverick can be seen as a new opportunity bring back this style of truck.

Street Performance Wheels and Tires

Lowered vehicles often emphasize street performance, so we swapped out the old wheels and tires. To improve on the old wheels, we wanted an open design that made the vehicle feel lighter and smooth like it glides across the pavement. This led us to selecting the Niche Milan 20-inch wheel design. The cool steel five spoke design keeps the utilitarian appeal of the Maverick while making it feel lighter and sporty.

Finding new tires to complement the altered style while still maintaining good traction, performance, and durability was a little tricky. We finally landed on the Pirelli Scorpion tires (235/45R20) to achieve the desired balance. These are well rounded street tires that have an emphasis on sports performance.

Red Painted Calipers

Having an open wheel design is a bare bone look that leaves the calipers more visible. These calipers were painted racing red to draw more attention to the new wheels. Red colored calipers are associated with a vehicles performance since many sports cars have branded colored calipers. It’s a quick and easy mod to make on your Maverick that adds to its overall appeal.

With trucks, we also recommend applying a ceramic coating to the caliper because it makes break dust, mud, and debris easier to clean while applying another barrier of protection. This truck won’t be taken offroad, but it’s still a nice addition to have.

Magnaflow Cat-Back Performance Exhaust

Along the same lines of performance, we looked for a new exhaust system. We ended up with a Magnaflow Cat-Back exhaust that delivers improved sound and power to this custom ride. Once we hooked up the exhaust, we found it had a nice aggressive pop and purr that would draw attention on the streets. Another nice feature with this option is that the black dual exhaust tips are located on the same side in front of the passenger rear tire.

Cruise Control Kit

XL models of the Maverick like this one ship without standard cruise control. We like the cruise option for those slightly longer rides and open roads, so we decide it best to add one on. Hooking up an aftermarket cruise control add-on is way cheaper than the extra $2,000 or $4,000 for the higher XLT or Lariat trim levels.

8-Inch DS-18 Powered Subwoofer

Next this low riding truck needed its bass boosted. Our sound system upgrade came in the form of a compact 8-inch subwoofer from DS-18. This subwoofers design allows it to be tucked behind the back seat on the inside of the cab. It delivers clear bass sound improvement despite its size with around 150w rms and 600w of max power.

Sound Deadening Panels

To go along with the upgraded audio system, we installed sound deadening panels in the floorboards and rear of the truck cab. These deadening panels create better interior acoustics inside the cab so you can blast your music even louder. Besides improving sound of the stereo, the deadening panels muffle sounds outside the car reducing road noise.

Cab Spoiler

Say what you will about spoilers, but they create an angular look to the car giving a sense of higher speed. We painted this cab spoiler a color match white to blend in more seamlessly with cab of the truck. The design of the cab spoiler is more subtle than the traditional winged spoilers you see on sports cars. It improves on the athletic look of the vehicle without going overboard.

Custom Painted Ford Emblems and Accents

To further alter the appearance of this custom Ford Maverick pickup we painted the emblems and trim accents white to match the body color. Doing so removes the last bit of factory feeling from the car which allows it to feel more unique and personalized. The new Ford emblems have a white oval instead of traditional blue with some bold black lettering and trim that erased the old chrome.

Then we painted the XL Fender vents and door handles the same white as the body paint to blend them into the truck. This makes the lowered Maverick seem even more like one cohesive piece which makes it appear well built and streamlined.

Custom Rocker Panel Strobe Stripe

Applying a custom rocker panel graphic to this Maverick supported its athletic character. This rocker panel strobe stripe design includes a touch of color that keeps the build from being to black and white. The red pairs with the painted calipers adding another layer of detail tying the vehicle together. In addition, the form of this graphic with its angled breaks builds on the previous enhancements of performance and speed.

Black Maverick Tailgate Inlay

At the tail end of this build we wanted to make the car more easily recognizable. To do so we inserted a black Maverick tailgate inlay so people can distinguish the car more easily. The matte black domed lettering against the white pops right off the vehicle making it more legible.

Truck Bed RGB LED Lighting Kit

It’s common to see LEDs under a lowered truck, but for this build we installed some in the truck bed. Given the power access by the tailgate we imagined that this compact truck would be getting a lot of use out of the bed. Having some truck bed RGB LED lights can be great for tailgating or car meets.

Spray-In Bedliner

Speaking of the truck bed, this 2022 Maverick got spray-in bedliner to protect it from damage while hauling goods. Even compact trucks like the new Ford Maverick take a lot of abuse while transporting things. Bedliners protect against hard impacts, gouges, and bad weather that could otherwise lead to paint chips and rusting.

3M Premium Window Tint

Last but not least we applied a window tint to this smooth ride. Installing a tinted film to your windows delivers wicked style, but more importantly it has practical benefits. Window tint creates privacy and provides protection from harsh UV rays for you and your ride.

Using high quality 3M premium window tint film, we applied a 35% tint on the front windows leaving the back windows at their factory shade. Rear windows are usually darker when they leave factory and don’t always require an additional tint.

When you go to select your tint, you need to keep in mind your local laws so that you don’t get ticketed. We always recommend a professional install for this modification. Poor tint jobs will bubble and discolor over time. Make sure your window tint installer has a good warranty to protect your investment!

Potential Add Ons

If there was anything else to add on this custom 2022 Ford Maverick build it would have been an Ultraflex tonneau cover. Tonneau covers are great because they protect whatever’s in the bed of your truck from weather damage or theft. Not to mention covering the bed would have helped to further the streamlined appeal just a bit more.
