The styling and capabilities of the current gen RAV4 make it much more viable as an off road or overland vehicle compared to previous generations. If you’re considering doing this for yourself, this is a great starter build to kick off your journeys.

Wheel Package
The satin black Motegi Racing MR140 wheel provides a slimming style to the build. A tuner wheel on a SUV can be a risky style choice, but these 17-inch 10 spoked rims look right at home.
They are a clear upgrade from the steelies that come standard on the RAV4 LE, especially when wrapped in nice rubber. We chose the Cooper Discoverer AT3 4S for this overland build. Its all-season tread design is guaranteed for 65,000 miles.
1.5 Inch Lift Kit
The 1.5 inch lift kit from LP Aventure improves the look and ground clearance of your RAV4. They lead the market in both safety and quality standards. All LP Aventure lifts maintain original alignment spec and does not interfere with the electronic stability control sensors of the vehicle. This keeps your RAV4 FMVSS126 compliant, just as Toyota intended.
To earn this compliance, vehicles must go through a series of evasive lane-change maneuvers at highway speeds. This ensures the driver can maintain control in critical driving situations. You may have heard this referred to as the “moose test” before. The Toyota Hilux famously failed it for many years.
Exterior
We applied an extended matte black roof wrap to the top of this RAV4. It covers the entire roof of the vehicle and drops down the pillar and rear hatch area. It matches nicely with the satin finish of the wheels and other trim pieces.
We capped off this build with crossbars and a Kuat Vagabond X roof basket. It provides a strong visual impact and expands the cargo capacity of the RAV4 significantly.
