Rough Country 5-Inch Lift Kit
To get this RAM 2500 in off-road capable form, we needed to add some additional ground clearance. We did just that by adding a 5-inch lift from our friends over at Rough Country. This kit was designed to give the RAM 2500 a mean profile with an impressive ride quality – and it does exactly that!
Lift kits are an essential mod to any off-road build, and not just because they look cool. With an increase in ground clearance, it makes the likelihood of scraping your undercarriage far less.
In addition, lift kits generally increase the total distance your suspension can travel. All of this means your vehicle handles better when the terrain gets tough!
Wheel & Tire Package
With the additional ground clearance we gained from the lift, we had to upgrade the wheels and tires too. We opted for the Fuel Offroad Vapor (22×10 -18) which features a unique six spoke monoblock design, perfect for performance and style!
To complement the wheels, we wrapped them in Toyo Open Country ATIII rubber (37×12.5 R22). The Open Country line from Toyo offers extreme grip for off-road situations, while keeping on-road handling responsive and predictable!
Painted Calipers
Tucked behind our beefy new wheel & tire package are the calipers we painted glossy red. Painted brake calipers are a cheap, easy DIY way to give your ride some additional accent coloring.
Many DIY-ers will head to their local hardware store and just pick up a can of rattle can paint. This can work, but in the long term the paint will chip and fade. Our method has many advantages over spray-type paint because it will not flake, and it dries much harder than any rattle-can product. It also has a heat resistance of up to 980 degrees!
Nerf Steps
With this RAM now sitting taller than a mountain, we wanted to make getting in and out easier. We accomplished that with a set of black Rough Country Nerf Steps. These steps offer a full-length design with drop steps for each door of the truck.
Not only do these steps offer increased functionality, they also can help hide parts of the exposed frame under the truck and offer additional protection for your rocker panels. Made from a corrosion resistant tubing, these are guaranteed to last a lifetime!
LED Light Bar
To allow this RAM 2500 to hit the trails at any time, day or night, we added a Rough Country 20-inch Cree LED light bar. The Cree lightbar offers a dual row design which we snuck behind the front bumper grille of this RAM.
One of the biggest benefits of the Cree lightbar is that it comes with an IP67 waterproof rating. This means that no matter what terrain you’re traversing in your truck, this lightbar can take it! Plus, the housing is all aluminum meaning you will never have to deal with pesky rust!
Blackout Emblems & Badges
With this RAM ready to hit the Rockies, we turned our attention to the emblems and badges. We replaced every badge on this RAM with a set of black, or red and black badges. These go a long way to change the look of this truck while also complementing the red tow hooks up front.
When considering blackout badges for your vehicle it’s important to make sure it’s the look you want. Our brands tab is a great starting point to gather inspiration, and view tons of different color options.
Pro tip; In most cases the OEM badges will not survive removal, so don’t plan on being able to easily revert back.
Spray In Bedliner
Since this RAM will likely be put to work on the trails, and on the road, we treated the bed of this truck to a spray in bedliner. We prefer spray in bedliners because they do not move around like plastic alternatives. It also prevents moisture from getting trapped and causing rust.
Paint & Vinyl Wrap
For this RAM 2500 we gave it that 1-2 wombo combo of paint and vinyl. Our paint booth showed some love to the front and rear bumpers, grille and mirrors, and exhaust tip. We opted for a color matched look across the board (minus the exhaust tip which we painted matte black).
In addition to the color matched accessories, we also added a matte black wrap to the door handles of this RAM. Wrapping your door handles can be a cost-effective way to customize your ride with the added bonus of protecting the paint beneath.
Potential Add-Ons
This RAM proves itself to be a capable daily driver that can tackle the trails. If you wanted to take it a step further and increase off-road capability, you could add a winch, and roll-bar.
