Around here we love two things, blackout builds, and off-road builds. Crazy thought here but, what if we combined the two? Well, we did exactly that! With this 2021 RAM 1500 big horn as our blank canvas, we created a truck that will leave any off-road enthusiast in a pool of drool.

Rough Country 6-Inch Suspension Lift Kit
To kick this off-road build off right, we added a big suspension lift to this big horn. We went with Rough Country’s behemoth 6” lift kit (P/N 33471). This kit is a total suspension package including new struts, skid plates, front knuckles, and a whole lot more!
Level 8 Slam Wheels 20×9
With a substantial lift added to this RAM we had to upgrade the wheel and tire package too. These 20 inch wheels from Level 8 offer a unique seven spoke design, with aggressive angles to enhance each individual spoke.
They’re offered in 17 & 18 inch too, as well as several different bolt patterns. For the tires we opted for the Nitto Ridge Grapplers (37/12.50/200) because of their hybrid terrain tread. The Ridge Grappler gives you the best of both worlds with a smooth, and peaceful on-road ride, with a rugged bite on the trails.
Rough Country HD2 Running Boards
Moving on up we needed to add a set of running boards, so we did just that. These HD2 running boards from Rough Country give your truck a unique style and aggressive presence (not to mention they make entry much easier). We really like the HD2 design since their full-length design doesn’t require you to step in a certain spot.
Constructed with high quality steel throughout, these running boards will last for years, and remain strong and sturdy all the while!
Spray-In Bedliner
The spray-in bedliner is one of the greatest creations since apple pie. We served this RAM 1500 a hearty slice to prevent damage or rust. We use Ameraguard Spray-On lining for our trucks. Their formula contains no solvents or VOC’s so it’s safe to breathe and doesn’t stink up your truck.
3M FX Premium Tint
To give this truck a blackout appearance we opted for some 3M FX Premium window tint. 3M has been in the tint game since the 1960’s and offer a lifetime warranty backed with their 50+ years of experience. Whether you’re looking to reduce heat and glare, increase privacy and security, or just make your ride look cooler, there’s a 3M window film for you!
Katzkin Leather Seats
We swapped out the seats on this RAM for a complete Katzkin Premium leather set. We used a black leather with white contrast stitching. We also added some flare with diamond pleating added to the seat bolstering.
Aftermarket leather is a little-known secret in the automotive industry. Katzkin offers factory match leather, as well as their premium custom leather (like we used). With tons of design styles, materials, and color options, there’s a reason why we only trust Katzkin for our leather needs.
Blackout Emblems / Badges
The RAM 1500 Big Horn comes from the factory with chrome emblems and badges. We wanted to give this RAM 1500 off-road build a blackout look so we swapped out the chrome nameplates with black ones from RAM.
Blackout badges are a great way to give your vehicle a customized feel without breaking the bank. Even if you aren’t fully committed to the #chromekiller lifestyle, they can also serve as accents to help spice up your build.
Chrome Delete
To keep the blackout appearance of this RAM big horn going we had to call in help from the paint booth. The big horn trim level comes with a ton of chrome on the grille (we definitely had our work cut out for us).
Our paint department hit the bumper with some gloss black powder coat to match the body. To complete the #chromekiller look we also added a coat of gloss black paint to the grille bezel. For less intricate body panels you can usually get away with a vinyl chrome delete.
Chrome delete wraps allow you to easily undo the delete if you ever decide
Rough Country Light Bar
Speaking of the grille, look just below it and you’ll spot the 20” Rough Country Cree dual row light bar we hid behind the bumper mesh. The Cree LED Light Bar puts out a powerful 9,600 lumen making sure the sun never sets on your adventure.
Upgraded Sound System
The sound system in the 21 RAM 1500 sounds fine from the factory, but like always, we wanted more than just “fine.” To make that happen we snuck in a Qpower Dual 10-inch sub box beneath the rear seats. Housed inside of the box are a pair of Memphis Audio 10” subwoofers. With this inclusion there’s some serious low-frequency punch added to the audio of this RAM.
To power these bass-ey boys we tossed in the Memphis PRX600.1 – 600 watt amplifier. The PRXA600.1 features variable bass boost, wired remote, automatic turn-on, cool accent lighting, and a ton more (although the accent lighting doesn’t matter too much in our case).
Potential Add-Ons
With so much already done to this off-road RAM 1500 build, ceramic coating would be a great addition. Ceramic coating bonds to your vehicle’s paint creating a surface that water, dirt, road grime, and even mud can slide right off – a great choice for an off-road daily driver!
