The 2021 Subaru Forester Limited comes from the factory with a ton of nifty features and additions. We wanted to build on the already proven platform by enhancing the aesthetics of this Forester. Murdered out, blacked out, chrome deleted, whatever you call it, we’ve done it to this modified Subaru Forester and the outcome is nothing short of stunning.

Powder Coated Wheels
Starting from the bottom of this Forester, we powder coated the factory wheels. The 2021 Forester rolls off the factory floor with some good-looking wheels, and powder coat enhances the appearance. To match everything else, we opted for gloss black.
Although we went with gloss black, one of the benefits to powder coating is customizability. We can powder coat in a nearly endless selection of colors and finishes. Whether you’re looking to get a color match to your factory paint, or go with something entirely new, powder coating is a cost friendly way to customize your ride!
Blackout Emblems / Badges
The Forester Limited comes from the factory with a hearty amount of chrome emblems and badges. We did away with all the chrome emblems and badges on this Forester for a complete blackout appearance. This creates a custom Subaru Forester look that you don’t see with many others.
Taking the time to replace / blackout the emblems and badges can easily make or break a blackout build like this. To complete the look we were wanting, disposing of all chrome emblems / badges was a necessity. As the saying goes, the devil is in the details.
To give the front and rear emblems a bite of the blackout appearance we smoked them using a tinted clear coat. This method is great because it gives the emblems a unique look without interfering with the sensors most cars have behind their emblems!
3M FX Premium Tint
Next on our #chromekiller hit list were the windows. We hit them with some 3M FX Premium Window Tint both for the aesthetics and functionality. Tint is often viewed as a purely cosmetic upgrade, which is not the case at all.
A couple notable functional benefits of window tint are heat reduction, UV protection, increased privacy, and glare reduction. During the hot summer months having tinted windows can really help keep your car cool when its been baking in the sun for hours.
Chrome Delete
With the amount of chrome accents on the Forester Limited, we had our work cut out for us. Starting up front, we hit the grille, and fog light housing with a coat of gloss black paint. This gives the Limited a similar look to the Forester Sport, but with all of the additional features!
Some parts like window trim are too difficult to remove and paint, which is where vinyl comes in to save the day. On the side of this Forester, we hit the chrome window trim with matte black vinyl. The finished product turned out phenomenal as the matte black wrap matches the existing plastic window trim nearly perfect.
This once chrome filled Forester now possesses a unique appearance that’ll be turning heads on the way to junior’s soccer games!
Painted Brake Calipers
With the rest of this Forester fully murdered out, we decided to add a coat of gloss black brake caliper paint to complete the look. If you’re looking for a cost-effective way to give your ride some additional personalization, painted calipers are the way to go!
Many DIYers (and even some shops) will try to get long term results using rattle cans. Rattle cans are a quick and dirty solution, but it’s important to recognize why it simply won’t last. With all the heat, dirt, debris, and general abuse your calipers experience, using a paint that can withstand these conditions is essential.
We use a hand-painted, heat resistant, high quality paint blend that is guaranteed to last for years. For the best results you could even apply a layer of ceramic coating. Ceramic coating can help protect the paint and make cleaning a breeze!
Potential Add-Ons
With the exterior of this Forester looking great, there’s not much that we would add. Knowing that the Forester is positioned as a family SUV, you could easily add Weathertech Floor liners to help protect from spills and mud.
