Vinyl Wrap Installation
Applying vinyl wrap may seem pretty simple, but it can actually be quite challenging. If improperly installed, vinyl can be over stretched, bubbly, and peel up at the edges. This results in your vehicle’s paint not being protected and a poor image of your brand. For the best results and longer lasting vinyl you should let a professional install your vehicle wrap. Professional installs last around 5 years whereas poor installs may only last 6 months. It may be a larger upfront cost, but it’s definitely better than a poor image and frequently repeated business down time/expense.
1. Measure Twice Cut Once
After graphics are finalized they need to be printed on the selected vinyl. The design is essentially broken down into tall rectangles which needs to be done for any printer even if you have your graphics already designed before hand. So, even if you save money designing the wrap yourself, there is still design time that needs to go into taking it from “concept” to “production-ready artwork”. To avoid wasting material, time, and money for everyone it’s good to always double check measurements and assure graphics have the correct layout before printing and cutting begins.
2. Cleaning And Removal
Whenever the vehicle pulls into the shop it’s usually covered with dirt and debris from the road. It gets coated with soap and sprayed down to clean the surface as best as possible. If it’s a new vehicle then no removal of graphics needed. For used vehicles, once it’s dried off technicians start to work on removing the old graphics. They typically use a heat gun or small blow torch which loosens the vinyl so they can carefully peel it off. This a delicate process and can be time consuming, but is necessary for properly fitting the new vinyl and assuring longevity.
3. Applying The Vinyl
Food trucks have a big surface area to cover and often require going over odd shapes at weird angles. There are lots of different pieces to cover specific areas of the truck body like: rivets, hood, fenders, and doors. Each of these pieces are carefully covered, smoothed, and sealed as the technician makes their way around the vehicle. Having a professional install a vinyl wrap leads to a proper fit, protected vehicle, and professional appeal.
